PwyX. You can do exactly the same thing with 240V circuits. The normal 120V plugs are called NEMA 5-15 plugs, and they go into either NEMA 5-15 or 5-20 sockets. The Electrical Code says the breaker must be 15A or 20A, and the socket ampacity must match the breaker, except 5-15 sockets are OK on a 20A circuit if there's more than one socket.
Sounds about right. But for safety's sake, I'd change the 5-20R on the wall to something else designed for 240V, so somebody doesn't plug a 5-15P 120V doodad into the 240V 5-20R socket. I use L6-20Rs. It would require making an adapter to go from the EVSE's 5-15P to an L6-20P. The adapter would have a 5-20R on one end and a L6-20P on the other.
